Excimer technology for super matte and soft touch surfaces
The Concept UV Excimer Unit is integrated into the production line to create a super matte appearance and a soft touch feel on flat panel surfaces coated with a suitable coating. Excimer radiation forms a micro-scale structure on the surface of the coating. This surface structure scatters the reflection of light and provides a deep matte appearance.
The resulting appearance and tactile effect depend on the coating formulation used, the surface preparation and the process settings. For this reason, the Excimer unit is evaluated together with the coating to be applied and the production flow.

Super Matte Surface Formation with Excimer
Excimer radiation creates a controlled micro structure on the top surface of a suitable UV coating. This structure scatters incoming light, reduces the gloss of the surface and contributes to the soft touch feel. The Excimer process does not give the same result on every coating type by itself; the coating formulation and process conditions need to be determined together.
Line Integration and Process
The Excimer unit is placed in the production line after the coating application stage. The curing steps after the Excimer process are planned according to the requirements of the selected coating system. The application sequence and auxiliary units are determined according to the product and production flow.
